Miss at la Playa: 2009

Patricia Nicolas is a jewellery designer born in Madrid. She studied in Central Saint Martins in London and her family is the founder of Nicol's. Sienna Miller, Beyoncé and Kate Nash (among others) have chosen her designs, which are sold in Harrod's, Yube (her sister's shop), Benny Room, Yoox, Harvey Nichols... And she has recently signed with Vogue (they have featured her creations on editorials several times).

I really like her designs because they are different and unique, and you can see that the materials used are really good. The cheerful colours and the macabre factor are a quite original combination.

Patricia Nicolás es una diseñadora de joyas nacida en Madrid. Estudió en Central Saint Martins en Londres y su familia es la fundadora de Nicol's. Sienna Miller, Beyoncé y Kate Nash (entre otras) ya han aparecido llevando sus diseños, que se venden en Harrod's, Yube (la tienda de su hermana), Benny Room, Yoox, Harvey Nichols... y acaba de firmar con Vogue (han recomendado sus creaciones varias veces en editoriales).

Me encantan sus diseños porque son diferentes y únicos, y se ve que los materiales que usa son de muy buena calidad. Los colores alegres y el factor macabro son una combinación bastante curiosa, el efecto es bonito.

Marina Alonso is one of the most striking new faces that we've been seeing on runways and editorials lately. Her young age (16 years according to some websites) is only an advantage for this promising model with amazing eyes and a very photogenic look, she always looks incredible in all the photos! She has flawless skin and she knows how to pose (believe me, it's not that easy!)

I wanted to interview her because I think that she's going to be a very important model soon. She has worked for Juanjo Oliva, Josep Font, and has appeared in several catalogs an editorials.

Are you signed in an agency or do you find your work by yourself?
My agency is View Management

What are the pros and cons of both? (having an agency and not)
You can't be a model if you don't have an agency that helps you improve, and finds jobs for you.

How were your beginnings?
About two years ago, in Valencia.

What was your first modelling job?
Hmm... a Montesinos & Co haute couture show in Valencia.

Is it difficult to keep up with your studies?
So far, it's not very difficult. I always work on holidays or I choose weeks that I can skip school.

At this moment, being so young is a positive or a negative thing?
Both. On the one hand, there are people who love new and young faces, and on the other hand, there are those who don't. Outside Spain they prefer the first option. Anyway, someday I won't be that young.

Do you think that the age limit for certain fashion weeks is necessary?
I'd prefer if the age limit in Madrid were 16 years, like in the rest of fashion weeks.

Do you have to be a certain size/weight?
Not exactly, you have to look good, and even if it's kind of a cliché, it's all about proportions. Your aspect depends on the kind of work you do, commercial or fashion...

What's the hardest part of your career?
The beginnings.

Do you want to be a professional model (well, you are now), or is it a temporary thing?
I know what I want to study, and if it goes well I'd like to combine both things.

Who's the model you most admire? Why?
Marina Pérez, because she has gained her success with perseverance.

For which photographer you'd like to pose?
Not just one...

What's your dream as a model?
I don't have a dream in this, I'll do what I can...

What's the thing about modelling that you enjoy the most: editorials, runway... why?
I love both, I enjoy them equally. An editorial is like telling a short story and play a part, in the fashion shows you get the adrenaline going.

Marina Alonso es una de las caras más prometedoras de la moda española. Su corta edad (16 años según he leído) es sólo una ventaja para esta increíble y camaleónica modelo que estamos viendo en todas partes. Es muy fotogénica y siempre aparece genial en todas las fotos. Coincidiréis conmigo en que sus ojos son impresionantes. Su piel parece de porcelana y posa muy bien (creedme, no es fácil).

Quería entrevistarla porque creo que va a ser una de las modelos más importantes del panorama español (e internacional, esperemos!). Ha trabajado con Juanjo Oliva, Josep Font, y ha aparecido en varias editoriales y catálogos.

¿Trabajas a través de una agencia o por libre?
A través de agencia, View management.

¿Cuáles son las ventajas y desventajas de ambos? (ir por libre o ir por una agencia)
No es posible trabajar si no tienes una agencia detrás de ti, que te desarrolla, apuesta por ti y consigue cada trabajo.

¿Cómo empezaste?
Hace alrededor de dos años, trabajando localmente en Valencia.

¿Cuál fue tu primer trabajo como modelo?
Mmm… un show de alta costura de Montesinos y compañía en Valencia.

¿Te resulta difícil compaginarlo con tus estudios?
Ahora mismo no, aprovecho siempre todas las vacaciones o me cojo semanas que veo que puedo ausentarme de clase.

En este momento, ¿ser tan joven te abre puertas o te las cierra?
Ambas cosas, por un lado hay personas a quienes les encantan las caras nuevas y jóvenes y por otro hay gente a la que no, fuera de España gusta más la primera opción. De todas formas, con el tiempo dejaré de ser joven.

¿Crees que son necesarios los límites de edad en pasarelas como Cibeles?
Preferiría que el límite fuera de 16, como el resto de pasarelas.

¿Te exigen una determinada talla/peso etc?
No exactamente, tienes que verte bien y tienen que verte bien, aunque suene a tópico, se trata de proporciones. Tu aspecto también depende del tipo de trabajos a los que te enfocan, o bien moda o bien comercial…

¿Qué es lo que te resulta más duro de tu trabajo?
Los comienzos.

¿Piensas ser modelo de profesión o lo de ser modelo es temporal?
Sé lo que quiero estudiar y si me fuese bien me gustaría compaginarlo.

¿Cuál es la modelo a la que más admiras? ¿Por qué?
Marina Pérez, porque se ha labrado su éxito siendo constante.

¿Para qué fotógrafo te gustaría posar?
Sólo uno no.

¿Cuál es tu sueño como modelo?
No tengo un sueño en esto, lo que se pueda hacer se hará…

Qué es lo que más te gusta de ser modelo: las editoriales, desfilar... ¿por qué?
Me encantan las dos, las disfruto por igual, un shooting es parecido a contar una pequeña historia y meterte en un papel, en un desfile descargas adrenalina.
