Jesús del Pozo is one of my favourite spanish designers. His designs are always elegant, with original cuts and fabrics that look very natural, sometimes even rustic, like in the spring/summer 2010 collection. The combination of colours and shapes is very proportionated (something of vital importance for clothing to fit), and the balance between the feminine touch and the masculine side is simply perfect.
I had the chance to visit the offices, the showroom, and the atelier. All is in the same building, which is incredibly handy. When the press department needs to write the press notes for the new collections, they just go downstairs and they can touch and know every detail, as explained by the creators themselves.
Being able to see (and photograph!) the atelier was a privilege, as the fashion show will take place in four days. Imagine the hurries and the concentration that must reign in there. Nevertheless, when I visited the atelier it was quite calm and quiet. It seems that they have everything ready.
The atelier is located in a very spacious room, with a very pleasant natural light, wide tables, hundreds of patterns, magazine clippings... The people were extremely nice, and the seamstresses seemed charming, and happy to be sewing for Jesús del Pozo. They assured me that it was the best atelier they had ever worked in, and they know what they are talking about, so I'm sure they're right. While I was taking the pictures they were listening to Sara Montiel (an old classic spanish singer), according to them, it's the best music to listen while sewing: "It's a pity that the music can't be heard in the photos" said one of them. They had almost 10 sewing machines, hundreds of thread reels of different colours, several rolls of fabric, drawers full of embroideries, lace, bows, ribbons, needles, pins, brooches, thimbles, crinolines... a couture paradise.
The clothes we get to see at the fashion show are fully made in the atelier shown in the photos, and the production that goes to the different boutiques (bride, prêt-à-porter, etc) is made in other ateliers.

Jesús del Pozo es una de mis firmas españolas favoritas. Sus diseños son siempre elegantes, con cortes originales y telas de aspecto natural, a veces incluso rústico, como en la pasada colección de primavera/verano 2010. Las combinaciones de colores y formas son muy proporcionadas (algo vital para que una prenda siente bien), y el equilibrio entre la feminidad y el toque masculino es simplemente perfecto.
He tenido la inmensa suerte de poder visitar las oficinas, el showroom y el taller de Jesús del Pozo. Está todo en el mismo edificio, fijaos qué cómodo. Cuando el departamento de comunicación tiene que redactar las notas de prensa sobre las nuevas colecciones, tan sólo tienen que bajar al piso inferior y pueden tocar y examinar las prendas, conociendo hasta el último detalle de la producción.
Poder ver (¡y fotografiar!) el taller fue todo un privilegio, ya que están a tan sólo cuatro días del desfile en Cibeles. Imaginaos las prisas y el ajetreo que debía de haber. Sin embargo, a la hora que yo fui estaba todo muy tranquilo y sosegado. Se ve que ya lo tienen todo súper preparado.
El taller está en una habitación espaciosa, con una luz natural muy agradable, mesas amplias, cientos de patrones, recortes de revistas, dibujos... La gente fue muy amable, y las costureras y modistas/os parecían encantadoras y se las veía contentas de coser para Jesús del Pozo. Me aseguraron que el taller de Jesús del Pozo era el mejor en el que habían trabajado nunca, y ellas saben, así que sería verdad. Cuando hice las fotos estaban escuchando a Sara Montiel, que según ellas es lo mejor para escuchar mientras se cose: "Es una pena que la música no se pueda oír en las fotos", apuntó una. Tendrían por lo menos unas 10 máquinas de coser, cientos de bobinas de hilos de colores, decenas de tubos de telas, cajoncitos con vivos, bordados, cintas, botones, bieses, crinolinas, automáticos, imperdibles, corchetes, alfileres, agujas, dedales... Un auténtico paraíso de la costura.
Las prendas que vemos en el desfile se confeccionan al 100% en el taller que podéis ver en las fotos, y la producción que va a las tiendas (novias, prêt-à-porter, etc) se cede a otros talleres.
Jesús del Pozo es un diseñador con las ideas muy claras. Transmite al equipo el estilo de la colección que tiene en mente y a partir de ahí se empieza a diseñar cada prenda. No sigue las tendencias, más bien las crea él mismo.
