The September Issue, Nomada Super Market, Issey Miyake, Jil Sander

The September Issue

I saw it at last... and I loved it! The truth is that I didn't expect Anna to be so sincere in front of the cameras, criticizing the editors (she even tells a stylist that her style is always the same and that she never proposes anything different)... there's even a scene in which Grace Coddington almost bursts into tears because Anna rejected a photo that was almost a piece of art. I laughed a lot with André Leon Talley, who plays tennis with a Louis Vuitton scarf and a watch with diamonds. David Sims (very handsome) also appears in the movie, along with Patrick Demarchelier, Mario Testino (there's almost a breakdown in the offices because they need more pictures from the Sienna editorial), Hamish Bowles (just a few seconds), Thakoon (the best one), Bee Shaffer, Coco Rocha... and many more.

The most surprising thing (well, not very surprising) was the unlimited use of photoshop (or any other kind of image editing software). Any flaw, even if it is minimal, has to be erased. For example, Sienna's smile in the cover it's not hers. According to Anna (and many of her co-workers) it was too "toothy" and two fillings could be seen. So, new smile for Sienna. The neck, and well, probably most of her body too, has been edited to appear perfect. Another anecdote is referenced in that picture with Caroline Trentini, where she's jumping in front of the camera (which, by the way, is the cameraman of the documentary). That photo is made of two different images, and the belly of the photographer is still there thanks to Grace Coddington, who told them not to erase it (even when Anna had said it had to be edited).

Nevertheless, the main character in the movie is Grace Coddington. It's through her that we get to see Anna's character. Grace appears in almost every scene, telling anecdotes and her opinion on Anna. Grace says she wishes there weren't celebrities on the covers, but she recognizes that's what the public wants, and Anna knew it before anyone. I highly recommend you to watch it. It is even better if you've had a look at the September issue of Vogue US (2007) because that way you'll get more things from the documentary.

------------------------

cines Ideal.

A scent by Issey Miyake

I attended the presentation of "A scent by Issey Miyake" yesterday. I liked trying the three different fragrances that the parfum is made of. The most curious thing is the bottle, very minimalistic, and the little tube is almost invisible.

Jil Sander
Jil Sander is cool. First, because the clothes are great. And second, because soon we'll be able to buy the collections at Uniqlo.

I thought they wouldn't show The September Issue on spanish theaters, as they didn't show The Last Emperor (Valentino), Factory Girl or Karl's documentary. Nevertheless, I'll be able to see it on september 25th, at last.

--------------

It's always fun talking about "Devil wears Prada"

I found this article because Miss at la Playa was linked on it (the Runway covers I made) and I found it funny and interesting. I already knew many of the things told on it, but it was fun remembering all the hype that surrounded the book and the film. It may be just another film, but there hasn't been a better film about fashion since Devil wears Prada (Sex and the City and Confessions of a shopaholic were so bad)

FAQs of Devil wears Prada

In what ways is the book's Miranda Priestly similar to Vogue's Anna Wintour?
Even though The Devil Wears Prada author Lauren Weisberger has never publicly admitted to basing her character Miranda Priestly on her former Vogue boss, there are a handful of unquestionable similarities. The Anna Wintour Devil Wears Prada true story reveals the following parallels:
-Both Miranda from the book and the real life Anna Wintour are British.
-Both serve as the editor-in-chief of a major fashion magazine.
-Both worked at their magazine's overseas counterpart before being transferred to New York (Miranda at French Runway and Wintour at British Vogue).
-Both have a fashion quirk (Wintour wears large, dark sunglasses while in the book Miranda sports a white Hermès scarf).
-Both enjoy playing tennis.
-Both have two children.
-Both serve on the board of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
-Both have marital problems that end in divorce.
-Both are known for their cold, cutthroat personalities.
-Both have nearly identical offices (which prompted Wintour to redecorate hers)

Anna Wintour's real offices and Miranda Priestly's

Did Wintour really attend the movie's premiere?
Yes. Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour wore a Prada dress to a special advance screening of The Devil Wears Prada in New York. Meryl Streep described her as being "very, very cordial" when the two were introduced at the movie's premiere. "We chatted, briefly," said Streep. "She was very gracious. I think the book was probably more upsetting to her than the film."
-guardian.co.uk

What did Anna Wintour think of the movie?
The day after she attended the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada, Anna Wintour's spokesman issued a statement about the film, "She thought it was very entertaining. It was satire. What's not to like?" (guardian.co.uk) In a Barbara Walters Anna Wintour interview, the Vogue editor-in-chief conveyed her reaction to the movie by saying, "I thought the film was really entertaining. Anything that makes fashion entertaining and glamorous and interesting is wonderful for our industry. So, I was 100 percent behind it" (ABC News).

How did author Lauren Weisberger land a job at Vogue?
Lauren landed her job as Anna Wintour's assistant by utilizing her own creativity. She mocked up her résumé to look like a magazine. She then submitted it to Condé Nast Publications and within days she was hired as Ms. Wintour's assistant. -The New York Times

Is it true that top fashion designers were afraid to appear in the movie?
The true story behind The Devil Wears Prada reveals that only one designer, Valentino Garavani, actually appeared as himself in the movie (ReelzChannel). It has been reported that Vogue's Anna Wintour warned major fashion designers to not accept their invitations to make cameo appearances. Yet, no hard evidence of such warnings can be verified. However, the absence of these individuals in the movie may be sufficient evidence in itself.

Sweet things

Harper's Bazaar

I love love love James McAvoy... surtout after I watched "Atonement" where he appears at his best... I wish he did more films, and well, better films, because "Wanted" and "Jane Austen"(with Anne Hathaway) were horrible, despite the fact that he acts quite well /// Me encanta James McAvoy... sobretodo después de ver "Expiación", donde aparece guapísimo.

Look what I found! Aren't these drawings beautiful? I think I love Ladurée macaroons too much... they even have a "tag" on my blog, haha /// Mirad lo que he encontrado, ¿a que son preciosos los dibujos?

Another beautiful drawing... I hate reading maps too :D

Ooh... cute! (Winona Ryder & Josh Hartnett)

I think I'm obsessed with this picture... everytime I find a new version, I have to save it in my computer. It's from "Lost in Translation" /// Estoy obsesionada con esta foto... cada vez que encuentro una versión nueva la tengo que guardar en mi ordenador. Es de la peli "Lost in Translation".

A scene from "The Royal Tenenbaums", where he knows that the girl he loves is marrying a boring professor, he loses the tennis match and starts taking his socks off. Yeah, it's absurd, but that's how Wes Anderson (the film director) is.

Cute! :)

Erin Fetherston's home... amazing, huh?

Anna Wintour (smiling!) and Franca Sozzani (Vogue Italia)... where's Carine?

Dirrtyglam March is on the air! And now with an english version too... have a look at it, they've changed the layout and it is deliciously beautiful!

The article I wrote for them about Madrid Fashion Week... (in the english version)

And this cute photo I found on the issue:

Mmh... I see a future DIY...

Style Influential made this, inspired by this post... Thank you so much! I love it! :)
