Sofia Coppola, can we swap lives for a month?

sofia coppola, louis vuitton

Her career involves everything I love: fashion (she's Marc Jacobs' muse), films (first woman to win an Oscar for best original screenplay), and music (the father of her daughter is Thomas Mars from Phoenix).

Here you have the pictures from the latest collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Sofia Coppola.

The Sofia Coppola Formula: Similarities between "Somewhere" and "Lost in Translation"

As you may know, I'm a truly Sofia Coppola fan. I can watch her films over and over again, and it's always like the first time. When "Lost in Translation" was on the cinemas, I remember that my friends went to watch it and left the room after the first 20 minutes. They said it was terribly boring and slow. It wasn't until someone told me it wasn't boring at all that I watched it. And obviously, I loved it. It was an intimate story between two strangers, without Hollywood-esque tricks and plot twists. It was natural, real. Then she made "Marie Antoinette", an equally hated and loved film by the public. You either hate it or love it. It is one of my favourite films. The last Sofia Coppola film I watched was "The Virgin Suicides". The plot didn't appeal to me at all, but the characters were so well written that I can say that I liked the movie.

And now, a new Sofia's film is going to be released: "Somewhere"... I can't wait to watch it! People say that the plot is very similar to "Lost in Translation", and I must say that they are not wrong. "Somewhere" is about the relationship between a father and her daughter, they start as two strangers that want to know each other, just like Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray in "Lost in Translation"

Using the images of the "Somewhere" trailer and the whole movie of "Lost in translation", Sofiafan made this list of the similarities between both films. I asked if I could post it on the blog, and Sofiafan said yes. You'll be surprised.

---------------------

Y obviamente, me encantó.

He's just not that into you, Fashionisima T-Shirts, an article about Sofia Coppola and the perfect haircut

"He's just not that into you"

I finally watched "He's just not that into you", a film I was heavily waiting for. I must confess that I thought it would be disappointing, because when I really want to go to the cinema to watch a film that I think is gonna be great, it is usually not as good as I had expected. Nevertheless, the movie was great.

The film is based on a "Sex and the city" line, you probably remember the episode, when Miranda understands that if a man doesn't call her, it's just because "he's just not that into you"

I highly recommend you to watch it. You'll fell in love with Ben Affleck (I did), you'll laugh with Ginnifer Goodwin (I did) and you'll adore Drew Barrymore naïveté. It was high time I saw a good comedy on the cinema.
------------------------

Sofia Coppola

Yeah, new things about Sofia Coppola. I found this really good article on The New York Times about her career, her family, her influences...I printed it (it's too long to read it on the computer, I don't like reading long texts on a screen, I prefer the paper) and read it fascinated. I think what Cassavettes says about her father is so true: ''My dad always said, do one creative thing every day. Whatever it is.''

Next haircut:

Next time I cut my hair, I'll chose this style. That's exactly my type of hair, wavy but not too curly, and the length that suits me the most.

Sofia Coppola's list

I'm not obsessed with lists (by the way, thanks for your great movie recommendations), haha, it's just that I found this interesting article with Sofia's twelve favourite albums.

The Virgin Suicides - My favourite quote

"We knew the girls were really women in disguise, that they understood love, and even death, and that our job was merely to create the noise that seemed to fascinate them".

True Women: Kirsten Dunst (I)

kirsten dunst

Everytime I find a picture that I like, I have to save it on my computer, which is just about to explode. It happens to me that when I see a pic of an actress, a model or any woman in general, I feel like I should dedicate a blog exclusively to their pictures. But if I already have this blog, why would I create another one? That's why I decided to open a new section on Miss at la Playa: "True Women", dedicated to those stylish women we see on the magazines, films and runways, whose beautiful outfits catch our eyes, even the most risky ones.

Nevertheless, this section won't be only made of stylish women pictures, but women that I admire. I will choose a woman every month, and I'll be publishing posts with pictures of my favourite outfits of them every week. I begin with Kirsten Dunst, for no particular reason. Well, the truth is that I always felt I had to create this section everytime I saved a picture of hers on my hard disk.

I like her style because it is totally original. Sometimes she dresses like an old lady, but that's one of her best qualities. I also like that although she's a very talented actress, she's so discreet and she usually avoids cameras.
--------------------------

New Sofia Coppola film!!

At last we have news about Sofia's future film. She's working on a script titled "Somewhere". The story centers on a bad-boy actor (Stephen Dorff) stumbling through a life of excess at the Chateau Marmont. With an unexpected visit from his 11-year-old daughter (Elle Fanning), he is forced to reexamine his life.

Sofia's said she has been looking to make "an intimate story set in contemporary Los Angeles". Film will lense in L.A. and Italy in June and July. Focus CEO James Schamus said. "'Somewhere' will have all the witty, moving and empathetic qualities that characterize all her work."

At first it looks like the typical romantic film, but I'm sure that Sofia will add her "magic" touch and will create an amazing film. I can't wait to see it. At the moment I'm planning on watching Lost in Translation (again).

De momento pienso volver a ver Lost in Translation

Sofia Coppola question & answer:

Q: What is your best fashion memory?
A: Sitting on Yves Saint Laurent’s lap at Dave’s for New Year’s when I was about 12.

Q: How did you first become friends with Marc Jacobs?
A: I saw pictures of his grunge collection when he was at Perry Ellis, when I was about 19 or 20.
I was visiting New York with my mom, and asked if we could go see it. Robert Duffy, Marc’s partner, met me and was nice enough to show me the collection and then Marc said “Hello”, and we started talking. We got along and had interests in common.

Q: What item would you never, ever wear?
A: I don’t like to say never, but I’m pretty sure I’d never wear a velour sweat suit.

Q: What are your all-time favourite films?
A: All that Jazz, Rumble Fish, Breathless, The Last Picture Show and Lolita.

Unas preguntas a Sofia Coppola

All that Jazz, Rumble Fish, Breathless, The Last Picture Show and Lolita.
