Two magazines, a fashion game, and Etro soap & shampoo

For us magazine-holics, the digital magazines are great because there are many and some of them are really good. They offer lots of different perspectives and the quality of the content is quite satisfactory. Showdown was "published" last week and I must say that the result is fantastic.

Para nosotros los adictos a las revistas, las ediciones digitales son lo mejor porque hay muchísimas y algunas son realmente buenas. Ofrecen variados puntos de vista y la calidad del contenido es bastante satisfactorio. Showdown está en el aire desde la semana pasada y debo decir que el resultado es fantástico.

A fashion board game!

'Shopping' is the perfect game for fashion lovers. It's like Trivial Pursuit, but about fashion. It has 2200 questions, like "Elle MacPherson appeared in the tv series 'Friends'. True or false?" It seems fun! It's in spanish, but you can read more about it here

Scott Schuman + Garance Doré in Madrid: What I saw, heard, and photographed

Yesterday I attended Scott Schuman's (The Sartorialist) book presentation at Café y Té in Las Rozas Village. The place was very pleasant, although it was very difficult to get there. The presentation was held by Carmen March, designer (the most sincere and spontaneous of all of them), Carla Royo-Villanova (with a very risky new look), Fiona Ferrer (from Elite Model Look), Michael Black (Value Retail creative director), Marisa Santamaría (Communication and press director in the IED), and of course, Scott Schuman, who wanted the conference to turn into a lively discussion panel and added comments whenever he could. There was a moment where the presenters started to talk to each other animatedly (because at first they only gave their speech and that was all), and Scott happily said: "That's what I was waiting for! Fight!"

Scott seemed to be a very nice person, very elegant, and extra self-confident, which is great. He was very spontaneous and cheerful. When they put the little microphone on him, he did the Robot, hahah.

Garance Doré arrived later and stealthily took a seat. However, Scott kept mentioning her all the time. Scott says that Garance dresses much more elegant and pretty than the girls she takes photos of. That's real love.

Ayer fue la presentación del libro de Scott Schuman (The Sartorialist) en el Café y Té de Las Rozas Village. Estaba en un lugar muy agradable, aunque un poco lejos para llegar. La presentación consistió en "una mesa redonda" en la que hablaron Carmen March (la más sincera y espontánea), Carla Royo-Villanova (con un nuevo look muy arriesgado), Michael Black (Director creativo de Value Retail), Fiona Ferrer (de Elite Model Look), Marisa Santamaría (Directora de Comunicación y Prensa del IED), y por supuesto, Scott Schuman, que tenía ganas de que la mesa redonda se animara un poco y añadía comentarios siempre que podía. En un momento que los conferenciantes se pusieron a hablar entre ellos a causa de una pregunta que les habían hecho (porque al principio cada uno soltaba su discurso), Scott dijo feliz: "That's what I was waiting for! Fight!" (¡eso es lo que estaba esperando! ¡pelea!)

Scott me ha parecido bastante simpático, muy elegante, y muy pero que muy seguro de sí mismo, lo cual está genial. Hablaba con mucha espontaneidad y con buen humor. Cuando le colocaron el micrófono por detrás del cuello, se puso a hacer el robot, jajaj.

Garance Doré llegó hacia la mitad de la presentación y se sentó muy sigilosamente entre la gente, aunque Scott no paraba de mencionarla en las historias que contaba. Scott decía que Garance siempre va mucho más guapa y elegante que las chicas a las que ella retrata. Eso sí que es amor.

Al final firmó libros a los asistentes de prensa. No pude ir a la firma de libros de por la tarde, ¿habéis ido alguno de vosotros? ¿Qué tal estuvo?

Someone must have put a curse on me. Everytime a famous person I really want to meet comes to Madrid, I don't know why, I miss it. And I can prove it. I wrote this post a month ago when I knew that Bruce Weber was coming to Madrid. I was so excited to meet him, but the tickets were sold out and I couldn't see him. Oh, and on my 15th birthday I wanted to go to a Greenday concert, I bought the tickets (which were so expensive, by the way) but for some strange reasons I missed the concert. I still get sad when I remember it.

Luckily, as you may know, Scott Schuman (accompanied by the great Garance Doré) will be in Madrid and Barcelona. Where? When?:

The post I wrote a month ago but wasn't published when I knew that the tickets for Bruce Weber were sold out:

I love when talented people in the arts and fashion come to Madrid to promote their work. Most of them skip Madrid on their tours, but Bruce Weber will be here presenting his documentary about Chet Baker, "Let's get lost". This time I won't miss it, (yeah, I missed it too) because when I knew that Annie Leibowitz (who, by the way, still owns the rights of her images, thank god) had been in Madrid for her exhibition, I almost died. I would have done anything to be there, I don't know how I didn't know she would be here. I'm also hoping that Scott Schuman (The Sartorialist) includes Madrid on the promotional tour for his new book. If he's thinking about going to Australia, why wouldn't he come to Madrid? (he's coming!)

Bruce Weber is one of my favourite photographers, I think that his photos are very cheerful, very summer-y. I'm sure you remember that editorial for W, titled "Summer Camp". I wanted to camp with Alexander Wang, the Mulleavy sisters, Lara Stone, Daria, Kate... genius. Or the Neiman Marcus catalogue, and those Ashton Kutcher pictures... images of an ideal world. In addition, he seems a very interesting person, I have always thought he looks like the Santa Claus of the Bahamas.

Debo de tener una especie de maldición que hace que me pierda todos los eventos/presentaciones de gente famosa a la que admiro. No sé por qué, pero por una razón u otra siempre me pasa algo y no puedo ir. Escribí este post que encontraréis a continuación cuando me enteré que Bruce Weber venía a Madrid, estaba súper ilusionada por conocerle, pero se agotaron las entradas y no pude publicar el post. Ah, y cuando decidí celebrar mi 15 cumpleaños en un concierto de Greenday, compré las entradas (carísimas, por cierto) pero por extrañas razones no pude ir y me lo perdí. Todavía me da rabia cuando lo pienso.

Bueno, pero como ya sabréis, Scott Schuman (acompañado por la genial Garance Doré) vendrá a Madrid el 17 de Noviembre. ¿Qué? ¿Dónde? ¡¿Cuándo?!:

Espero que no me ocurra nada y pueda ir por fin y la maldición se rompa.

El post que escribí hace un mes pero que no publiqué cuando me enteré que las entradas para ver a Bruce Weber se habían acabado:
Me encanta que personalidades del mundo del arte y la moda vengan a Madrid a promocionar sus trabajos. Muchos de ellos se saltan Madrid en su recorrido, pero Bruce Weber estará en La Casa Encendida presentando su último documental sobre Chet Baker, "Let's get lost". Esta vez no pienso perdérmelo (sí, también me lo perdí), porque cuando me enteré de que Annie Leibovitz (que por cierto, sigue teniendo los derechos de sus imágenes, menos mal) había estado en Madrid promocionando su exposición, casi me da algo. Lo que hubiera dado por estar allí, no sé cómo se me pudo pasar. También estoy deseando que Scott Schuman (The Sartorialist) incluya Madrid en su tour promocional de su nuevo libro. Si baraja Australia, ¿por qué no venir también a Madrid? (viene!)

Bruce Weber es uno de mis fotógrafos favoritos, me parece que sus fotografías son súper alegres, casi todas muy veraniegas. Seguro que recordáis la editorial para W, titulada Summer Camp, daban ganas de irse de campamento con Alexander Wang, las hermanas Mulleavy, con Lara Stone, Daria, Kate... genial; el catálogo de Neiman Marcus, aquellas fotos de Ashton Kutcher... imágenes de un mundo ideal. Además él tiene pinta de ser una persona muy interesante, a mí siempre me ha recordado a una especie de Santa Claus de las Bahamas.

Bruce Weber es tan reconocido por sus fotografías como por sus trabajos en el cine, ha dirigido videoclips de los Pet Shop Boys, anuncios de Calvin Klein, Jil Sander, Ralph Lauren, Abercrombie & Fitch, su documental "Let's get lost", fue nominado a un Oscar al Mejor Documental... en fin, que el tío es una máquina.

-The trend for Spring/Summer 2010 is: surfers.

-Miuccia Prada is a genius. Neoprene coats? Yes. Glass dresses? Yes. People lying on the beach prints? Yes. I never thought that neoprene would make a good fabric for wearable clothes.

-Duyos S/S 2010 was one of the best collections I've ever seen.
Duyos’s show was one of my favourites. It reminded me a little of Sonia Rykiel, you know, that bathsuit with flowers I deeply wanted to have.

The collection is beautiful, I love the prints, the accesories, (where can I buy those sunglasses? they are lovely! Very “Miss Dior Chérie” à la Sofia Coppola), the big paillettes, the tops, the bows on the back… well done, Duyos!!

I remember that some seasons ago I used to wonder why Burberry was using so many studs on the clothes. Since when were they punk?

And then Balmain appeared with all the studs on the jackets and shoes and suddenly they were everywhere. Now I don't wonder, I just love them.

So far I've made these jeans with studs on the left pocket. Then I think I'll make my own Balmain jacket. Sounds like a plan.

Hace varias temporadas me preguntaba: ¿Por qué en Burberry le ponen tachuelas y pinchos a todo? ¿Desde cuándo se han vuelto punks?

Y entonces llegó Balmain con las tachuelas en las chaquetas y los tacones, y empezaron a estar por todos lados. Ahora ya no me pregunto nada, es que simplemente me encantan.

De momento me he hecho mis propios vaqueros con el bolsillo despegado y lleno de tachuelas. Luego creo que vendrá la chaqueta Balmain. Y luego... ya veremos....

What do you need:
- Studs (available at Studs & Spikes. I recommend this size, and you will need 100 studs aprox.) / tachuelas (a la venta en Madrid en Pontejos y en Studs & Spikes, por internet. Recomiendo este tamaño, necesitaréis unas 100)
- Jeans / unos vaqueros
- A glass (optional) / un vaso (opcional)




Steps:

1. Cut the left side of the pocket, leaving the seam intact. /// Corta el lado izquiero del bolsillo dejando la costura.

2. Place the glass under the denim, to tighten the fabric, it will be easier to add the studs: /// Pon un vaso debajo de la tela para que la tela quede tensa y puedas pinchar las tachuelas fácilmente

3. Hold the fabric while you insert the studs /// Sujeta bien la tela mientras vas colocando las tachuelas


4. Seal every new stud you add. I suggest you used the same hole for the next stud so they won't fall apart (see the picture above) /// Ve cerrando cada nueva tachuela que pongas, porque si no se salen solas. Recomiendo que uséis el mismo agujero de la última tachuela que habéis colocado (mirad la foto de arriba)


5. Continue adding the studs until the pocket is fully covered /// Sigue colocando todas las tachuelas con cuidado para que quede todo recto hasta que el bolsillo esté completamente cubierto

If I think of the best streetstyle photographers, the ones that set the trends, the masters, two names come to my head: Scott Schuman (The Sartorialist) and Garance Doré. Of course, there are many other great streetstyle photographers, but these two captivate me everyday with their particular way of capturing people, and moments, with that special touch that express their photos. And not, it's not just the camera (though it helps)

Well, the thing is that... they are dating! Isn't it wonderful?
They met years ago and they are a couple for some time now. Scott Schuman was married for some years and has two kids, but he is divorced now. It was him who gave Garance the camera she uses now, as she used to take her photographs with a small digital camera.

They've been spotted for the first time together at Paris and Milan Fashion Week.

Si pienso en los mejores fotógrafos de streetstyle, los que marcaron un estilo, los pioneros, me vienen a la cabeza Scott Schuman (The Sartorialist), y Garance Doré, aunque ella es posterior. Por supuesto, hay muchos otros buenísimos, pero ellos dos me siguen cautivando cada día de una manera particular con sus fotografías y el toque especial que le dan a cada imagen. Y no, no se trata de la cámara (aunque ayuda).

Bueno, pues resulta que... son pareja! ¿No os parece genial?
Se conocían desde años y desde hace un tiempo salen juntos. Scott Schuman estuvo casado durante muchos años y tiene dos hijos, pero ahora está divorciado. Fue él quien le regaló la cámara de fotos a Garance, ya que usaba una digital compacta corriente.

Han aparecido juntos por primera vez en Paris y Milán Fashion Week.
