Do It Yourself: Givenchy Bow Headband

Things that are "in" this season because of Gossip Girl: Coloured tights, specially white ones; red lipstick on teenagers; headbands, style trademark of the apparent goodliness of Blair Waldorf (although she's my favourite character of the series, she's the most wicked of all).

Probably that's why Riccardo Tisci dared to dress the models for the Givenchy SS 09 collection in western jeans... and bow headbands! I thought they were the perfect accesory. A little risky (you can look like a six year old girl on Sunday), but if you combine it with clothes that mellow the girly air it can look pretty well.

Cosas que están de moda a causa de Gossip Girl: Las medias de colores, principalmente blancas; el pintalabios rojo en adolescentes; las diademas, símbolo de la "santidad" aparente de Blair Waldorf (en realidad es la peor de todas, y lo digo aunque sea mi personaje favorito de la serie).

Probablemente por esta razón Riccardo Tisci se atrevió en la colección de Primavera/Verano 2009 de Givenchy a vestir a sus modelos con pantalones del oeste... ¡y con diademas de lacitos! Me pareció una monada de accesorio. Algo arriesgado (hay peligro de parecer una niña de seis años en domingo), pero combinándolo con prendas que le resten un poco de cursilería puede quedar muy bien.




- A plain headband. The best colours are beige and black. /// Una diadema lisa, sin estampados. Los colores que mejor quedan son beige y negro.

- 40 cm of ribbon (silk or satin will do). Length: 40 cm. Width: 2 cm aprox (the same colour of the headband) /// 50 cm de lazo (en seda o raso). De ancho 2 cm más o menos.

- A good glue /// Pegamento de contacto

- Scissors /// Tijeras

Cut 30 cm of ribbon. Glue the ends. Then cut 5 cm of ribbon and hold the long ribbon by the half like you see on the drawing. Then glue the short strip to the long one and glue the ends, so the long is strip is secured forming a bow.

Corta 30 cm de lazo. Pega los extremos. Después corta 5 cm de lazo y sujeta la mitad del lazo largo con el que acabas de cortar, para que parezca un lazo (ver el segundo dibujo). Sujétalo con unas gotitas de pegamento y enróllalo al lazo largo. Cuando esté bien apretado, pega el extremo.


Put some drops of glue on the headband and then add the bow. If you want your bow to be safely glued, use some ribbon to attach the bow to the headband like you did with the long strip of ribbon before

Pon unas gotitas de pegamento en el centro de la diadema y pega el lazo. Si quieres que el lazo se quede bien pegado, pon una tira de lazo sujetándolo a la diadema, como en segundo dibujo (arriba del todo).

Note:

If you want, glue the ribbon to one of the sides of the headband, not the upper middle. It will look great too /// Si quieres, pega el lazo a un lado de la diadema, en vez de arriba en el medio. También queda muy bien.

I remember that some seasons ago I used to wonder why Burberry was using so many studs on the clothes. Since when were they punk?

And then Balmain appeared with all the studs on the jackets and shoes and suddenly they were everywhere. Now I don't wonder, I just love them.

So far I've made these jeans with studs on the left pocket. Then I think I'll make my own Balmain jacket. Sounds like a plan.

Hace varias temporadas me preguntaba: ¿Por qué en Burberry le ponen tachuelas y pinchos a todo? ¿Desde cuándo se han vuelto punks?

Y entonces llegó Balmain con las tachuelas en las chaquetas y los tacones, y empezaron a estar por todos lados. Ahora ya no me pregunto nada, es que simplemente me encantan.

De momento me he hecho mis propios vaqueros con el bolsillo despegado y lleno de tachuelas. Luego creo que vendrá la chaqueta Balmain. Y luego... ya veremos....

What do you need:
- Studs (available at Studs & Spikes. I recommend this size, and you will need 100 studs aprox.) / tachuelas (a la venta en Madrid en Pontejos y en Studs & Spikes, por internet. Recomiendo este tamaño, necesitaréis unas 100)
- Jeans / unos vaqueros
- A glass (optional) / un vaso (opcional)




Steps:

1. Cut the left side of the pocket, leaving the seam intact. /// Corta el lado izquiero del bolsillo dejando la costura.

2. Place the glass under the denim, to tighten the fabric, it will be easier to add the studs: /// Pon un vaso debajo de la tela para que la tela quede tensa y puedas pinchar las tachuelas fácilmente

3. Hold the fabric while you insert the studs /// Sujeta bien la tela mientras vas colocando las tachuelas


4. Seal every new stud you add. I suggest you used the same hole for the next stud so they won't fall apart (see the picture above) /// Ve cerrando cada nueva tachuela que pongas, porque si no se salen solas. Recomiendo que uséis el mismo agujero de la última tachuela que habéis colocado (mirad la foto de arriba)


5. Continue adding the studs until the pocket is fully covered /// Sigue colocando todas las tachuelas con cuidado para que quede todo recto hasta que el bolsillo esté completamente cubierto
